History in
the Making The Central Florida Midrange User's Group (CFMUG) was formed
in 1978 after a number of midrange executives and users expressed interest in
having monthly meetings to share ideas among themselves, see new products and
concepts presented by IBM Systems Engineers and Marketing Representatives, and
be able to associate with people interested in fields in which they were
working. The organization was formed with users of System/34's, System/36's and
System/38's. During the early days, the IBM Corporation and member users spent
considerable effort making sure the group received some of the best technical
information and presentations available. Today the organization continues in
that tradition so users will be aware of who in their community can share their
interests.

The Concept The concept is
simple: Provide a mechanism which provides employer rewards to employees
while giving those employees a forum to meet and mingle with others in their
field, be introduced to leading edge concepts related to the company's
equipment, see how they can utilize and provide increased value to the
organization, and learn about the new technologies which can be added to
Midrange systems to make them benefit everyone using the system. It is like
being a part of the leading edge technologies, getting skills transfer sessions
on technologies, and developing relationships with people who face the same
problems and challenges your staff does.
